Why An Endodontist?
An endodontist has two additional years of specialty training following general dentistry schooling. With this focus on endodontics, they are better suited for difficult cases.
The root canal specialists at Utah Endodontics also use advanced technology, such as surgical microscopes that help magnify visibility.
At your appointment, you can expect our doctors to inform you of all the risks, benefits, and options for your treatment. With anesthetics and our dedication to your well-being, your treatment will be as comfortable and pain-free as possible.
Utah Endodontics offers nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to help you feel calm and relaxed during your appointment, with minimal side effects.

Frequently Asked Questions
Endodontics is the practice of dentistry that focuses on disease or injury of the soft tissues inside a tooth, referred to in the industry as “dental pulp.”
Endodontic procedures remove inflamed, infected dental pulp so the inside of the tooth can be cleaned. Afterward, the tooth is filled and sealed. A temporary crown is often placed on the tooth until you can visit your regular dentist, who then does a permanent crown. At Utah Endodontists, our doctors perform the following:
- Root Canals
- Retreatment
- Apicoectomy
If the dental pulp of a tooth is infected or inflamed, only endodontics can get to the root of the issue. Addressing the problem can prevent further damage to the tooth and surrounding gums. Endodontics procedures can prevent the spread of bacteria throughout the mouth.
Some of the signs that you need endodontic treatment include:
- Pain when chewing
- Sensitivity to hot or cold temperatures
- Swollen or tender gums
- Darkened gums
- Cracked or chipped tooth
- A hole in a tooth
Your dentist can help determine via x-rays, thermal and electric testing, or tapping your tooth if you need endodontic work done.
First and foremost, endodontic treatment should relieve pain. It also prevents additional problems from developing in your mouth, which can affect your overall health.
